Steelers lose to Broncos in overtime

January 08, 2012 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

@#%^&!@#$!!!!!!!

You all saw it.  The Steelers lost to the Denver Tebows 29-23 in overtime, on a play that they never should have allowed to happen.

I’m so upset right now that I don’t even want to write a recap of  the game.  So this is all I’m going to write about it.

That is all.

Time to start talking about the NFL Draft.

Two Steelers named All-Pro

January 06, 2012 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

The Associated Press released it’s 2011 NFL All-Pro roster today, and two Pittsburgh Steelers were on it.

Each year, the Associated Press votes on their annual NFL All Pro Team.   The selections are made by a 50-member panel of NFL journalists.  Unlike the Pro Bowl, the votes for the AP All-Pro team don’t factor in what conference the player plays in.  So AFC and NFC players compete head-to-head to determine who is really the best at each position.

Being named to the All-Pro Team is perhaps the highest individual honor that an NFL player can receive.  Being named to the AP All-Pro team essentially says that among all of the players who play a particular position, this player is the best.

This year’s team features Steelers’ center Maurkice Pouncey.  Pouncey was already named to the Pro Bowl team, but by being named All-Pro means that the sportswriters believe that Pouncey was the best at his position in the entire NFL this year.

Steelers’ safety Troy Polamalu was also named to the team.  Like Pouncey, Polamalu had already been named to the Pro Bowl roster.  Eric Weddle of the San Diego Chargers was named as the other Safety on this year’s All-Pro team.

Congratulations to Troy and Maurkice.  Being named All-Pro is truly an honor.  You both make Steeler Nation proud.

Steelers vs. Broncos Preview

January 05, 2012 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

The Steelers begin their quest for Lombardi Trophy #7 this Sunday when they face the Denver Bronco’s (or as we like to call them, the “Denver Tebows”) at 4:30pm ET.

The Tebows are coming off a 3 game losing streak.  And unless God himself comes to Tim Tebow’s aid, that streak is going to reach 4 games on Sunday.

Despite all the hype, Tim Tebow may be the worst passer in the NFL.  He threw for a whopping 60 yards and a 20.6 passer rating in last week’s 7-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.  And now he has to face the #1 defense in the entire NFL.

Here’s what we’re likely to hear on Sunday when Tim Tebow meets Troy Polamalu, LaMarr Woodley, and James Harrison, respectively.

  1. “Holy %$#&^#!!!!!!”
  2. “Heeeeeelllllllpppppp!!!!!”
  3. “Owwww!  I don’t want to play football anymore!”

I’m not trying to be disrespectful to Tim Tebow or the Denver Broncos.  But they simply have no chance of beating the Steelers.  The Broncos were the champions of the AFC West with an 8-8 record.  That same record would have landed them in 4th place in the AFC North.

Of course the Steelers are going to have their challenges as well.  Starting running back Rashard Mendenhall was lost for the rest of the season when he suffered an injury against the Cleveland Browns.  Safety Ryan Clark, the Steelers’ leading tackler, will miss the game due to health concerns related to his sickle cell disease. And quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still hobbled by an ankle injury.

But despite the Steelers’ injury problems, they should still be too much for the outclassed Broncos.

Unfortunately, the Steelers have an annoying habit of keeping most games close, even against teams that they should beat easily.  So I don’t expect the Steelers to beat the Broncos 40-3.  But I do think that 21-7 is a realistic expectation.

It’s been an interesting season for Tim Tebow.  He surprised his critics, and became a media darling.  But sadly, that all ends on Sunday.

Steelers limp into playoffs

January 02, 2012 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

The Steelers did what they had to do, by beating the Cleveland Browns 13-9.  Unfortunately, neither the Buffalo Bills nor the Cincinnati Bengals gave the Steelers the help that they needed.

The Bills lost to the New England Patriots 49-21, after blowing a 21-0 lead, and the Bengals lost to the Baltimore Ravens.  So instead of gaining the #1 or #2 seed in the AFC playoffs, the Steelers will be the #5 seed, and will travel to Denver next week to face the Denver Tebows.

As has been the Steelers habit this season, they played down to the level of their opponent.  The Browns, who finished the season with a 4-12 record, gave the Steelers all they could handle.  Cleveland actually led 6-3 at halftime.  But the Steelers managed a field goal and a touchdown in the second half to pull out the win.

But it was a win that came at a cost.  Ben Roethlisberger was already nursing a high ankle sprain, and didn’t look particularly mobile during the game.  LaMarr Woodley sat out due to the hamstring injury that he’s been nursing for most of the second half of the season.  And now Rashard Mendenhall suffered a torn ACL that might cause him to miss the playoffs.  Mendenhall went to the ground without ever being hit.  That’s never a good sign.

With Mendenhall out, the Steelers were left with Isaac Redman and John Clay as the only two healthy running backs on the Steelers’ roster.  Clay was on the Steelers’ practice squad just two weeks ago.  Fortunately, Mewelde Moore may be able to play next week, after missing two games with a sprained knee.

RB Isaac Redman

So the Steelers will limp out to Colorado to face the Denver Broncos, and all of the hype that surrounds their quarterback, Tim Tebow.  The game will be played at 4:30pm next Sunday.

In the words of Bart Scott; “Can’t wait!”

Other Steelers News

  • Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward caught the five passes that he needed to reach 1,000 catches for his career.
  • Heath Miller surpassed Lynn Swann and became the 4th leading receiver in Pittsburgh Steelers history.
  • Is it just my imagination, or have the Steelers placed Mike Wallace in the Witness Protection Program?  The Steelers seem to have forgotten about Wallace, as Antonio Brown has emerged as Ben Roethlisberger’s favorite target.  Hopefully, the Steelers will remember that Wallace is actually on the roster, and try throwing the ball to him during the playoffs.
