Steelers vs. Chiefs haiku contest
The Steelers barely managed an overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs. It would be an understatement to say that it was a disappointing game on many levels.
The Steelers continually seem to play down to the level of the competition. KC hadn’t led for a single second this season. No one second! Yet, they led for much of the game against the Steelers.
It’s frustrating seeing the Steelers struggle against losing teams like the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, and KC Chiefs. In fact, it’s so frustrating that I’ve decided to skip my game recap this week. Instead, I’m going to go right to the weekly haiku contest.
The contest rules are simple. You must summarize the Steelers-Chiefs game in a haiku. A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that contains only 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Typically, haiku do not rhyme.
Please note, the emphasis is on syllables, not words. Remember, 5/7/5.
I start the competition by offering a haiku of my own. Then you readers write a haiku of your own to try to beat mine. On Thursday I will announce this week’s contest winner. But remember, your haiku has to be better than mine. If none of your entries are better than mine, then I can declare myself this week’s winner.
Here’s my entry:
The surging Steelers
Played down to competition
Almost lost the game
Okay readers, it’s your turn. Lets see who can come up with the best haiku about the Steelers-Chiefs game. Your haiku must be about the game, or any other interesting topics that are directly related to the game (e.g. the rainy conditions, Ben’s injury, Haley facing his former team, etc). You may enter the contest as many times as you like.
Any entries that do not follow the 5/7/5 format will be automatically disqualified, so remember to count your syllables.
Are you ready for some haiku?!!

Easy win is not
1Victory cold, wet and bleak
Roethlisberger’s out
Rain and poor play reigned
2Then Suisham’s kick ended it
Too close for comfort
You need heart to win
3If they don’t find one real soon
Ten more years, no bowl!
Wallace captures ball
4Between magic legs of gold
Or Steelers vanquished
Ben carrying team
5Crushed by Houston and Hali
Too much to shoulder
Pressure bent O-line
6Ben’s shoulder separated
Our season at risk
The pitiful Chiefs
7Leave Steeler Nation puzzled
Why so many hurt
Bryron Leftwich now
8Leftwich best days gone
9Need trustworthy Quarterback
Batch the better choice
Is it me, or does Ike Taylor have a disability? The game was over. Ike missed another assignment. 4th and 15? One on one he still missed it.
10[mod of earlier one (no way to edit)]
Easy win is not
11Victory cold, wet and bleak
Shoulder, season sprained
[another mod - clearly having too much fun with this....]
Without high-thrown ball
12Captured between legs of gold
We Fail to the Chiefs
1 and 7 Chiefs
13Sloppy win comes with a price
When you win, you lose
Playing down to Chiefs
14Is Ben okay for Sunday?
Timmons seals the deal
