Steelers promote RB Isaac Redman
Today the Steelers announced that they have promoted running back Isaac Redman from the practice squad.
The Steelers are seeking to bolster their struggling running game. The Steelers have not been able to generate an adequate rushing game, and starting running back Willie Parker is suffering from turf toe and will probably not play on Sunday. Rashard Mendenhall will probably get the start on Sunday, but Mendenhall was benched last week due to having a bad week of practice and not knowing his playbook.
Redman was the Steelers’ leading rusher during the preseason. He gained the nickname “Redzone Redman” because he of his ability to find the endzone in short yardage situations. Many Steelers fans were surprised when Frank Summers was named to the final 53-man roster rather than Redman.

Summers was recently placed on injured reserve when he suffered a mysterious injury. He was replaced by former Steelers running back Carey Davis.
The Steelers made room for Redman by releasing veteran defensive end Nick Eason.

Just a quick note here…to make room for Redman the Steelers released Nick Eason who has been inactive for the first three games. It makes you wonder why Eason was on the roster in the first place. If Sonny Harris showed enough to make it the final cut and the Steelers need youth at DL, why lose him? I know they gambled trying to pass him through waivers. It just doesn’t seem like a good move now. Yes a small thing…but building a team is a series of small things. The way our O&D lines look for the future, it makes you go, “Hmmmm”.
1John#21,
2I understand your thoughts about the Steelers releasing Sonny Harris. However, I was at every day of training camp, and believe me when I say that Sonny Harris showed NOTHING. He was picked up by the Carolina Panthers when the Steelers released him, but since that time, the Panthers have also released him. The Steelers may sign Harris to their practice squad now that Redman has been called up. But there was no great demand for Harris during the draft or now that he’s a free agent. You may want to be careful about over-valuing a player who hasn’t shown anything. If he were so valuable, wouldn’t he have been drafted much earlier than he was? Also, wouldn’t he be on an NFL roster right now?
