Steelers-Browns Haiku Contest
Well the Steelers beat the Browns and stand alone in first place in the AFC North. That’s exactly where they belong.
Now that Big Ben is back with the team, I thought it would be a good time to bring back our weekly haiku contest.
The contest rules are simple. You must summarize the Steelers-Browns game in a haiku. A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that contains only 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Typically, haiku do not rhyme.
Please note, the emphasis is on syllables, not words. Remember 5/7/5.
I start the competition by offering a haiku of my own. Then you readers write a haiku of your own to try to beat mine. On Thursday I will announce this week’s contest winner. But remember, your haiku has to be better than mine. If nobody’s haiku is better than mine, then I take home the prize.
Here is my entry:
Now we have Big Ben
The final piece is added
Dallas here we come
Obviously, I chose to focus on Ben’s return. But you can write about any aspect of the game.
Okay readers, your turn. Lets see who can come up with the best haiku about the Steelers-Browns game.
Are you ready for some haiku?!!
This week’s featured item

Deebo laid the wood
1Big Ben dropped the rust on Browns
Here is a tissue
Nice job, Jim!!!!
Harrison may get fined for laying that wood. But excellent haiku nonetheless.
2Brownies were served done.
3The D and B are the best!
Sevenburgh is Gold!
Dallas! Dallas! Whoa; slow down. We haven’t even won the Division yet! Good chance we will, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. How about “Here we come Miami?”
4Harrison is beast
5Let the man do what he do
Let’s please stop the hate
Here’s one that was submitted on our Facebook page. I thought this one was very strong. This was submitted by Christina Omogrosso Snamman.
They sent Colt McCoy
6a boy to do a man’s job
should have known better
Eric,
7Perhaps I am being too optimistic. But if I had said “Here we come Miami” it would have had 6 syllables rather than 5, and wouldn’t have been a haiku.
Yay big Ben is back
8Oh Miami here we come
James will give you some
The D is wicked
9You’ll be shaking in your shoes
When they come for you!
What is the hype about this haiku stuff? I know its origin but is it a northern thing or something? Seems silly to me (I’m from the South) but I guess you think the same about me eating grits for breakfast huh?
Don’t hate on me now
10Just a hick with no culture
Ben lead Wallace please!
The offense had life
11The defense made them think twice
A win decisive
Browns lick the bung hole
12I thought Harrison killed Cribbs
Good to have Ben Back
or another take on it
The offense took flight
13The defense can’t be compared
Our time is here again
Big Ben leads offense
14James Harrison smashes foes
Victory again
Ben Roethlisberger
15is an entire haiku
by himself, Okay?
Be the missing link
16Now the chain is strong again
The Browns were the test
Welcome back, 7
17Hines & Heath were in heaven
James rolled the leaven
