Patriots do what Steelers should have done

January 15, 2012 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

The New England Patriots did what the Steelers should have done last week; they beat Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

The Patriots routed the Broncos 45-10, and now move on to play the winner of the Baltimore Ravens/Houston Texans game.

The Patriots held Tim Tebow to only 136 passing yards, and only allowed him to complete 9 of his 26 pass attempts.  At the end of the 1st half, the Patriots had more points (35) than Tebow had passing yards (28).

Compare that to what the Steelers did against Tebow.  The Steelers looked like they were determined to prove that Tebow was the second coming of Dan Marino.

What makes the Patriots win even more painful is that I feel confident that the Steelers could have beaten the Patriots.  After all, the Steelers manhandled the Patriots during the regular season.

If things had gone differently, the Steelers might be getting ready to play the winner of the other AFC semifinal (most likely Baltimore).  I would have loved to have seen the Steelers get another shot at the Ravens.

I know that It’s useless to dwell on what could have been.  Nevertheless, I have a hard time forgetting how things could have been if only…………

Oh well.  We’ll get them next year.

  1. Agree that Steelers should have beeten the Tebows, but I don’t think there was much of a chance of them beating the Patriots again for one simple reason. Injuries. This was not the same Steelers team that beat the Pats earlier. They would have probably had to hold open tryouts last week just to have enough O-linemen to play the game. This was actually one of the more frustrating teams to watch in recent memory, just because you just knew that they had the potential, but with a one-legged Ben just couldn’t hit on all cylinders. I do take solace in the fact that “congrats Broncos for beating the Steelers”. “Johnny tell them what they’ve won”. “Well, Broncos fans you get to get you cans kicked by the Patriots the next week, and as a special prize, you get to pick one spot later then the Steelers in this years draft!”.

I thought for sure the Steelers would have one of the linebackers, maybe Timmons shadow Tebow, but they didn’t. I know it was harder after the defensive linemen went down, but the defense just played too loose. And why did we get away from the running game in the second half? We had a chance to win that game in the fourth quarter, but let it slip away.

  3. Time to move on to the draft. Fun debate on our #1 need! Take your pick: OT, OG, ILB, DL, DB….Sad news – our favorite PS player Tyler Grisham was signed by Denver. Good luck to the next W Welker-hope he makes it.
BTW – did you read Rooney’s article in PG? Sounds like he is preparing everyone for major moves with our veteran core of players (A Smith, Hines, Farrior, Starks, Hampton, McFadden, Moore, Foote, etc.) Who comes back at a discount and who says ‘farewell’. Sad times but it has to be done. Like I said 2012 will be Tomlin’s toughest coaching year yet.
