Bloggers mock draft

March 16, 2010 By: Admin Category: Draft/Free Agency

Each year I am asked to participate in several blogger mock drafts.  My selection is approaching in one of those drafts, so I thought it would be wise to get my readers’ input on who you think I should be considering in this year’s draft.

With that in mind, I am posting the picks that have already been made.  My selection is coming up soon.  I will post each selection leading up to mine, so you know exactly who is still on the board when pick #18 comes around.

Here is the most recent selection, along with a recap of all of the previous picks.  This pick is being made by Jimmy Morris of the Tennessee Titans blog Music City Miracles.

With the 16th pick in the 2010 NFL Mock Draft Among Bloggers, the Tennessee Titans select…..

***Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech***

The Titans would be thrilled to see Derrick Morgan here.  Jeff Fisher has made no secret that this off-season is all about upgrading the defense.  Morgan is a big guy that can get after the passer, and that is where it all starts.  Morgan is arguably the best player on the board here, and he fills the biggest need for the Titans.

The San Francisco 49ers are now on the clock.

As you can see, there has already been a rush on offensive linemen.  Five offensive tackles have already been selected.  The Steelers need offensive line help, but I don’t know if I should spend a 1st round pick on the 6th best offensive tackle in the draft.

So help me out, Steeler Nation.  Who do you think I should pick?  Don’t just give me a name.  Give me your reasons as well.  Thanks for your help.

  1. Steelers: Based on who is left you have to take Joe Hayden the Cornerback. Please no more Willie Gay. If Hayden goes take Dan Williams and get a future Nose tackle in there. I think he’ll have less weight problems than the big guy from Bama.

Joe Haden, Cb, Florida. He is a steal at our spot, don’t let the slow 40 time put you off. I mean Nnamdi isn’t that fast, but he shuts down his side of the field. Lets face it our secondary isn’t getting any younger, we need some new playmaking talent.

  3. Hartwig, Starks and Kemoeatu all signed new deals for 4+ yrs. in 2009. Essex will be a free agent in 2011. Colon will be a FA or a RFA depending on the status of a CBA. But since the best tackles and Iupati are gone you are looking at either Maurkice Pouncey (C) or defense.

Interestingly, Dan Williams (DT), Taylor Mays (S) and Joe Haden (CB) are all available. Hoke is in the last year of his contract and older than Hampton but Williams probably wouldn’t play much this year barring injury. Mays is probably the best athlete and could possibly even play ILB. He could play in the nickel or dime packages early replacing Townsend or Carter. Haden is dropping because of his 40 time but many say he plays faster. He could possibly start right away but it may be too soon to declare Lewis and Burnett draft busts.

Golden Tate (WR) is tempting as Hines Ward’s replacement but does a 1st round pick play special teams? The Steelers just signed Battle and Randle El. You have to cut one or carry 6 WRs.

If/when charges are filed before the draft then you may have to consider Colt McCoy.

Williams is the safest pick. I’m taking a chance on Lewis or Burnett stepping up at CB or a good CB can be had in the 2nd round. Lewis might be able to move to safety if necessary and I am targeting Myron Rolle in the mid to late rounds.

  4. I agree with Joe Haden if he is available at 18. If San Fran grabs him as 17 then you MUST go with Taylor Mays. Tomlin and Dick can make him a better player. If he cant play safety have him add on 10lbs and move him to LB.

  5. Haden would be a steal, if not, don’t go with Mays! We don’t need another immature kid on the team.

If Haden is picked, Anthony Davis, OT Rutgers would be a nice pick (some have him as the best OT of the draft), as would Dan Williams NT Tennessee (Tennessee has a history of great DL’men!)

    5
  6. I agree we need an OT, but too many are gone. Tim Tebow? We don’t have Batch, and who knows what will happen with Ben.

    6
  7. Haden 100%. If he is not available then go with Kyle Wilson. Taylor Mays sucks. Don’t pick him.

    7
  8. Haden’s a no brainer.

If he’s gone I think you have to at least consider Dez Bryant or Jason Pierre Paul and let one of the impending FA walk (Holmes/Woodley).

    8
  9. The niners picked Mays… now swoop in and get Haden before the timer runs out!

Top corner of the draft from a big school, capable of shutting down quality WRs? Sitting across the field from Ike Taylor? The fans would forget Randle Gay pretty fast!

  10. Can we draft a chaperone?

  11. Thanks for the input guys. I’m on the clock.

I hear everyone’s thoughts about Haden. He would be an excellent pick. But……..

Scott pretty much captured all of the thoughts that were going through my head. I really want Haden. But we just picked 2 CBs last year. On the other hand, NT is the hardest position to draft, and the best one just fell into our laps. So, with the 18th pick in the 2010 bloggers mock draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select……..

  12. I haven’t had a chance to delve too deeply into this years draft class yet but I’d have to say that if Haden is still there he is the obvious (and best) pick available. If he’s not there Dan Williams is a possibility. Other than those two, I would desperately trade down (I know, not an option here)…and then maybe pick Pouncey.

I would stay away from Mays. I just don’t see him becoming a FS and, therefore, he would only see the field if Troy gets injured. Of course, as last year shows, that does happen but not enough to demand the use of a mid 1st round pick.

    Where is Ziggy Hood?

  14. South Fla says:

Has to be a corner because its a passing league now. Ravens just upgraded their receivers and so will the Bengals. Have to get a corner to protect the passing game
