Steelers sign undrafted free agents

April 26, 2010 By: Admin Category: Draft/Free Agency

As is always the case the day after the NFL Draft ends, all of the teams scramble to sign undrafted free agents.

The Steelers are no different, and they signed 7 undrafted free agents to add to the players that they acquired in the draft.

The team added 3 offensive linemen, 2 safeties, 1 defensive tackle, and 1 fullback.

The seven undrafted rookies were offensive guard Dorian Brooks, safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, offensive tackle Kyle Jolly, fullback Demetrius Taylor, defensive tackle Cordarrow Thompson, safety Justin Thornton and center/guard A.J. Trump.

Fans are probably happy to see the Steelers grab two safeties, since the team essentially ignored that position in the draft.

  1. Anyone know who signed Ciron Black OT from WVU?

  2. I’m glad to see the big fullback. I hope he pans out, because we need to get back to running the ball more effectively, especially with Ben on the bench for at least 4 games. I wish we could’ve added Lagarette Blount from Oregon to the mix as well. He is a phenomenal runner who got hammered in the draft from his incident with Boise State. The Titans have themselves a fantastic back, if they can keep him under control.

  3. Well, CBS and the NO Times Picayune are both reporting that Ciron Black of LSU signed with the Steelers. The Pittsburgh papers (Post Gazette, Tribune Review) both have the same list as above.

  4. According to his Black’s agent Jimmy Sexton, as of Monday evening he has not signed with anyone.

  5. I’ve already seen Black on the Steelers’ roster on their website.

My guess: half of these guys are PS guys, the other half are gone. It’s not everyday that you find a James Harrison or Willie Parker.

  6. I FIRST QUESTIONED THE DRAFTING OF 3 OLB AND WHY WE DIDNT ADDRESS SAFETY OR DEFENSIVE LINE. HOWEVER LOOKING AT IT AGAIN DEPTH IS NEEDED AT THE LINEBACKER POSITION. THATS WHAT THE STEELERS ARE KNOWN FOR RIGHT? FARRIOR IS OVER THE HILL. HARRISON ISNT FAR BEHIND. PATRICK BAILY, ANDRE FRAZIER AND KEYARON FOX? COME ON NOW… THE 3 OLB DRAFTED MAY NOT BE IMPACT PLAYERS RIGHT AWAY, BUT THE PICKS MAKE MORE SENSE TO ME NOW THEN IT DID INITIALLY. I DO WISH THEY WOULD HAVE SELECTED THE DT FROM NORTH CAROLINA WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE.

If Sweed has a ruptured Achilles, that is a tough break for him. After the Holmes debacle, I was hoping that Sweed could step up and help fill the void. He is learning all about adversity and perseverance. Let’s hope it makes him stronger. Now I really wish we would have drafted Golden Tate. [If Limas is out for the year...] Looks like Manny Sanders and Antonio Brown could get real shots. Quietly, Tyler Grisham may be moving up the depth chart.
