Steelers vs. Ravens recap haiku contest

December 15, 2008 By: Admin Category: Post-Game Reports

Well, we got the defensive struggle that we all anticipated.  But in the end, the Steelers proved that their defense was superior to Baltimore’s.  More importantly, the Steelers’ offense proved that they better than Baltimore’s as well.

With their 13-9 victory, the Steelers clinched the AFC North title, and a first round bye.  It might not have been pretty, but a win is a win.

As I do each week, I will summarize the game in the form of a haiku.  A haiku is  a form of Japanese poetry that contains only 3 lines.  The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables.  Here is my offering for this week:

Ball did not break plane
We’ll take the win anyway
AFC North champs!

Okay readers, your turn.  Try to write a better haiku than mine to summarize the Steelers-Ravens game.  The best entry gets posted on the front page of the blog. Start writin’.

Steelers-Cowboys haiku contest winner

December 11, 2008 By: Admin Category: Post-Game Reports

We had some very good entries this week, but just like in the Highlander movies, in the end there can be just one.  This week, the one who stood above all the rest was Patrick.  This is a repeat win for Patrick.  He was last week’s winner as well.

It may be difficult to keep Patrick from three-peating next week.  The Force is strong in that guy.  So get to your haiku dojo and start practicing for next week.  It’s going to take some awfully powerful kung fu haiku to beat Patrick.

Here is Patrick’s winning entry.

Is that Clint Eastwood
Or Deshea Townsend out there
Making Cowboys pay?

Congratulations, Patrick.  Another strong performance.  Let’s see if you can hold onto your crown next week.

Steelers-Cowboys Recap Haiku

December 07, 2008 By: Admin Category: Post-Game Reports

If you haven’t done so already, please see our Steelers vs Cowboys Recap.  And if you didn’t read our pre-game articles, please see our Steelers-Cowboys Preview and our Key Match-ups.  Lastly, we also wrote an article about Cowboys’ rookie running back Tashard Choice.

Here is this week’s haiku competition.

Well, the steelers’ pull out an amazing victory.  They almost gave me an ulcer in the process, but ultimately, the black and gold got the win.

To commemorate their 20-13 win over Dallas, here is this week’s commemorative haiku.  Remember, a haiku is a japanese poem that has 3 lines.  The first line has 5 syllables.  The second line has 7 syllables.  And the last line has 5 syllables.

Frigid conditions
Offense struggles once again
Townsend wins the game

Alright Steeler Nation, your turn.  Can you top my haiku?  This weeks winner will be featured on the main page late in the week.  Good luck.

This week’s fan haiku awards

December 03, 2008 By: Admin Category: Uncategorized

As our readers know, we often summarize the Steelers’ games with a commemorative haiku. This week two of our readers contributed haiku that were so good that we decided to share them on our main page.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. A proper haiku has 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the 3rd line has 5 syllables.

The first winner was contributed by Greg. It went as follows:

Bane of the steelers
Finally the tide is turned
Black and gold win big

Now that’s some mighty fine haiku.

Our second winner was contributed by Patrick. Clearly, Patrick has studied under the great Shaolin haiku masters. Patrick demonstrated his haiku black belt with 4 strong offerings, but we thought that this one delivered the knock out punch.

Baked Beans, Clam Chowder
Another Patriots loss
All give Boston gas

Well done, Patrick. Well done!

Join us next week for more Steelers haiku. Remember, you too can haiku.

Steelers vs. Patriots haiku

November 30, 2008 By: Admin Category: Post-Game Reports

Okay Steelers fans. It’s time for another Steelers haiku. This time, we’re summarizing the Steelers’ 33-10 win over the Patriots with a commemorative haiku (or two).

Who said football and poetry don’t go together?

Remember, a proper haiku is a 3 line poem with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line, and 5 syllables in the third line. Remember, that’s “syllables”, not “words”. Here we go.

Second half rally
Smash mouth football can’t be beat
Steelers kick Pats’ @$$!

Or how about this:

Rain and snow from sky
Harrison’s unstoppable
Finally beat Pats

Alright readers, it’s your turn. Care to add a Steelers-Patriots haiku?
